What is the mobile mammography van program?

The staff of Ellis Fischel’s mobile mammography van provides digital mammograms, clinical breast exams and breast health education to women throughout central and north central Missouri, serving 26 counties and 60 different locations. The program is accredited by the American College of Radiology and the Food and Drug Administration. The staff is comprised of certified radiology technologists and nurse examiners who provide the same level of care as a free-standing mammography facility.

What is the mammography van?

The "mamm van" is a 44-foot long fully inclusive clinic on wheels, featuring an examination room and a mammography suite. The van is also accessible to persons with disabilities.

What are the benefits?

The mammography van service provides women a convenient and efficient breast cancer screening, and digital mammography means shorter examination times and improved patient convenience. Most appointments take less than 30 minutes from check-in to completion. Employers, rural physicians, church groups, county health departments and civic clubs can use the mamm van to provide an invaluable cancer screening and breast health service to the women of mid-Missouri. Women may be eligible for free breast cancer screenings if they meet certain financial guidelines. Nearly 2,500 mobile screenings are provided annually.

How can I help?

The mammography van has extra expenses of fuel, vehicle costs, vehicle upkeep, staff (not only clinical staff but the drivers of the van and the "chase" vehicle). Because of our mamm van, Missourians in rural communities are able to access this vital and life-saving service. Won't you help donate to defray expenses of this vital service?
